There are two speeds in music right now: the speed of making something, which is slow, human, and iterative, and the speed of feeding the machine, which is none of those things.
We're built to protect the first one.
The label runs on time, yes — masters delivered, splits paid, questions answered — so the art doesn't have to. We'd rather you get it right than rush your rollout.
Because creativity doesn't end when the tracks are mixed.
We sign artists in two ways — as part of the label catalog or as a sub-distribution partner — and back every release with the distribution and rights infrastructure of a much larger company.
*
Catalog signings: The label is your label. The release carries the imprint, the rollout is built together, and the catalog is curated. A small number of these per year.
Distribution partnerships: Your release stays under your own name with your own creative direction. The label provides the distribution and rights infrastructure in the background. Less hands-on, more flexible.
We build your release plan with you.
We know artists treat deadlines like suggestions. So we can move release dates and change metadata if your project evolves or needs more room before launch.
We pay splits on time, every time. We answer every email or message from our artists and managers — usually within a day, and never longer than a few days.
We commit to a small number of releases per-year, so each one gets the attention it needs.
We want to be as excited as the artist is to share their music with the world. So we partner with songwriters, producers, and creators we believe in.
Newer England Records is run by Chris Robley, who spent twenty years inside the independent music industry — most of it at CD Baby and, later, BandLab — before stepping out to work directly with artists.
He's also a working songwriter and an award-winning poet, which is part of why the label exists at all: to release records the way good books are released, by people who care about the writing.
With co-founder Erika Parr, he runs the music marketing agency DEMO alongside the label.
